Filling in the gaps: observing gestures conveying additional information can compensate for missing verbal content

While observing gesture has been shown to benefit narrative recall and learning, research yet show whether gestures that provide information is missing from speech recall. This study explored relay the same as differentially affect in university students. Participants were presented with a videotaped told one of four conditions: no verbal information, or information. Results showed provided additional (i.e., when was vital information) enhanced compared gestures, while did not more beneficial than at all. Findings current valuable insight into effect iconic on recall, important implications for education learning.
